While in a face-face conversation, people have difficulty lying because they might have a “tell”. But is there a “tell” in lying while texting? If you don’t know what a “tell” is, it’s something about your body language that portrays the fact that you’re lying. It’s much easier to spot in person.
For the above reason, many people do not hesitate while lying in a text message. The reason simply being that they do not have to face that person physically, neither they have to respond immediately. They can simply take more time and think it through before responding.
But texting behavior and lying is not impossible to spot. You simply have to give a lttle more attention than you do. Below are the lists of examples that will enable you to prevent anyone from making a fool out of you.
This is a little difficult to spot, because no one can tell if it’s an actual delay or what the matter is. It’s usually better to give the person a benefit of doubt in this case. But if it takes some one more than half an hour to respond, and they apologize by saying that they were watching a television, then there’s a high probability that they were lying.
Cat & Mouse:
The one thing a liar wishes is that the problem being discussed Is forgotten. For example, if you borrow something and you have lost it. Then you’d feel guilty and not tell the person you borrowed it from.
Pointing the Blame:
There is another lying trait that is extremely common. When someone is asked a question and know that they are wrong, then they will try to make that person feel guilty about asking the question. Playing with emotions is how they try to escape, and it relies heavily upon the person judging themselves because of it.
The long Sentence Text:
When in college and a student would have to write an essay on topic he/she know nothing about. The they would probably try and write as much as they could, trying to hide the fact that they were lying about everything they wrote. The same goes with texting behavior. A study conducted at Cornell proved that liars will often have longer text messages.
Stuck on Repeat:
Usually when someone gets in a difficult situation for a wrong act, they would usually repeat their answers in many different ways. Take cheating for example, if you’re asked of cheating your partner, your response would be: “They’re just a friend, nothing happened, we’ve just been friends for a while.”
They Don’t answer the Question:
A hidden lying trait is when a person tries to cover a question. Usually done by asking a follow-up question that is totally irrelevant. They do this in the hope that person would forget about the question they asked.
The oldest trick to avoid someone’s text is to pretend if you’re busy. The most common are health related issues. The reason for this is to get time to think of their lie.
Another example is when a person uses positive along with insecure words to answer the question. The reason behind is to avoid letting down or hurting the feelings of the other person. According to recent research, the most common words used by women that were lying were ‘probably’, ‘try’ and ‘I’.
While lying, people don’t want to look like a bad guy, so they try to change the outcome in order to make the other person feel bad. This easy to spot because they will flip out after being asked a simple, easy question.
Testing a Reaction:
Before deciding to lie, people usually test a reaction to their response first. If they get the response they are looking for, they will tell the truth, and if they don’t then they will probably lie.
Typing for a Long Time:
If the texts are usually small and sweet, you might find it suspicious if they are taking too long to reply, especially if they are asked a question or being confronted about something. They might be deleting or proof reading their messages in order to sound convincing.
Now you know the most common texting behaviors and lying traits, but one thing to take care of is to never jump the gun. There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation for as to why a person is acting different. But if you do think that a person is lying to you in a text message, then the best option is to confront them face-face, because the chances of them lying in that situation is reduced.
