Why does everyone want this girl’s prom dress after she died?

She's an inspiration for everyone!

There is no doubt about the fact that prom is a very special night for everyone. It means a night of celebration, farewell and party. A bittersweet experience for the people that properly celebrate it. Same was the case for Catherine Malatesta.

A tribute

This story is a short tribute to beautiful and strong Catherine that despite her severe sickness decided to celebrate her prom night.

Amazing Friends

via
The most amazing thing about this story is the way Catherine’s friends reacted to it. They made the event full of joy and bliss for her and showed her hope during the hard time of severe sickness.

The Tragedy

via
Living in Arlington, Massachusetts Catherine was a student who at the age of 15 was diagnosed with Epithelioid Sarcoma. The worst part about the situation was that the disease had spread to her lungs and spine. She was very excited about her prom night but was not sure if she would be allowed to attend or not.

The good news

via
Despite her failing health the doctors realized that her brain is not much affected by the disease. This was the good news that she had been waiting for. When the doctors informed her that she can be released from hospital for one night to attend the prom she was beyond excited.

The prom

via
She spent all her day doing makeup and getting her hair done just like any other normal teenager. Her mom later said that she said to her “Mom, for the first time in a long time, I actually feel beautiful.”

A very special night

via
It was a very beautiful night not only for Catherine but also for everyone that loved her. Her mother said “It was such a lovely moment, and I was so happy that she felt like that for one day. It was a special, special night for all of us.”

A beautiful couple

via
Not only was she looking absolutely beautiful in her dark blue dress but she was also accompanied by a handsome young man.

An amazing life

via
Catherine knew that she had very little time that is why she made sure she didn’t waste any of it. Jennifer Godwin who was Catherine’s mother said “Catherine was an incredible student, a hard worker; she was kind and quick to give a compliment.”

Extracurriculars

via
Not only did she take her studies seriously but she also took part in many extracurricular activities. Playing field hockey was one of her favorite activities.

Strong Personality

via
She was diagnosed with a tumor under her armpit. Despite knowing about her disease, she never gave up hope and kept on studying hard. She also recorded a video campaign from the hospital to become the council president and ended up winning.

Positive attitude

via
Throughout her journey the best thing about Katherine was that she kept a very positive attitude. She kept on going to school and participating in different activities despite the fact that she was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.

Few days later

via
Just 4 days after the beautiful prom she was admitted to Boston’s Children Hospital and passed away within a year after her diagnosis. She was gone from the world but her beautiful memories kept on illuminating the lives of people that she touched.

Tribute

via
Taking inspiration from strong Catherine her friends decided to pay her a beautiful tribute. Julian was the first one to start this trend and she wore Catherine’s dark blue dress to her junior prom.

Continuation of tribute

via
People were so impressed by Julian’s act that three other friends of Catherine decided to wear the same dress in their proms. Emma Schambers wore it to East Greenwich High School senior prom. Lauren Hourican wore the dress to Arlington’s senior prom and Carly Blau decided to wear it to Beverly High School senior prom.

Thankful family

via
The tribute made the family very emotional and they were grateful to Catherine’s friends for it. Her mom said “For a parent who has lost a child, the hardest part is you think people are going to forget about them. It’s important for the parent to keep that spirit alive. The fact that this group of girls wants to do this on their own just helps me to grieve and helps me to move forward.”
